Often, lack of motivation stems from singers feeling they can’t be successful, feeling bored, or feeling like they have no personal ownership in the process or the product. Whatever the case, there are steps we can take to guide our singers from being checked out and unmotivated to being engaged, taking ownership, and feeling a sense of belonging in the ensemble. I approach this through discussing predictability, intentional engagement, and outlining student ownership tools. My session will explore creating an environment that addresses motivational challenges and ultimately takes some of the motivational lift off of the teacher and shares it with the students.
