WATCH MASTERCLASS

In this class, Dr. Moore will discuss the adolescent voice change and its impact on singers. While most people are aware of the change that male-identified singers undergo, there is less knowledge about the mutation for female-identified pubescent singers.

Students of contemporary styles of singing, and modern musical theatre singing in particular, are most susceptible to injury. Dr. Moore will share strategies for conductors and music directors that may help to mitigate developing pathologies and even prevent injury in young voices.

Topics:

  • Research study tracking vocal pathologies across genres
  • Demands of musical theatre and contemporary singing
  • Adolescent voice mutation
  • Challenges of young singers during the mutation, along with common pittfalls
  • Rudimentary strategies for helping to prevent vocal injury
